Since 2015, researchers at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art at the University of Latvia have been developing literatura.lv, a virtual resource in the field of literature, which is based on a large and expertly created database of Latvian literary figures and literary works from the 16th century to the present day. The resource is freely accessible to everyone and, using the extended search and data filtering possibilities, it is possible to find the information you need on the life story, literary activity, reception, translations, awards, maps and links between people connected with writing.
At the beginning of 2024, literatura.lv includes more than 6000 biographical sections on writers, literary scholars, publishers, critics, editors, translators, book artists, background information on almost 59 000 works - periodicals and books -, more than 305 awards and more than 4000 organisations where Latvian cultural figures have worked, studied and been members.
The literatura.lv database is regularly updated with the latest information on new publications of Latvian literature in Latvia and abroad.
Anyone - any student, researcher, or general reader - can use the various search options to find the information they need about Latvian literature, authors, works or individual works, life data and places of residence, as well as to look at Latvian literature in the context of various facts, cultural life and connections, while also learning about the latest in Latvian literary life.
The portal is based on earlier research and databases prepared by the researchers of the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia as "Latvian Literature in Biographies" (1992, reprinted and supplemented in 2003), and different indexes.
