Latvian publishing house Liels un Mazs has been shortlisted for the Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the year for Europe!


Liels un Mazs is an independent, family-owned publishing house founded in 2004 in Riga, Latvia. Ever since their focus has been on publishing contemporary picture books and quality fiction created by talented Latvian writers and illustrators. Among a selection of great foreign authors they have published translations of Ulf Stark, Janosch, Kitty Crowther, Shaun Tan, Carll Cneut, Maria Parr, Piret Raud.

Books published by Liels un Mazs have won the International Baltic Sea Region Jānis Baltvilks Prize in Children's Literature and Book Art, National Book Art Contest Award ‘Golden Apple Tree’, Children’s Jury Award, Annual Latvian Literature Award, regularly have been included in the IBBY Honour List and White Ravens collection, nominated for ALMA and the H.Ch. Andersen Award.

We are especially delighted that Liels un Mazs are shortlisted among the best children’s book publishers of 2018 as Latvia is celebrating its Centenary this year and participating in the London Book Fair together with the other two Baltic States as Market Focus countries.
